Galesburg, IL

For the second consecutive year, Carl Sandburg College’s annual Student Art Show has gone virtual.

This year’s show is on display through May 3 in the Lonnie Eugene Stewart Art Gallery on Sandburg’s Main Campus in Galesburg, but due to COVID-19, patrons are encouraged to view the show on the Sandburg website at www.sandburg.edu/StudentArtShow.

The online platform features photos of each piece as well as artist comments and additional details, making it easy for friends, family and other patrons near and far to see the creations of Sandburg students. Last year’s event went virtual for the first time as a result of the College’s campus being closed down due to COVID-19.

Those viewing the show in person on campus are required to wear a mask and must fill out a brief health screening survey upon entry.

The juror for this year’s show is area artist and onetime Sandburg art instructor Basia Krol. A native of Warsaw, Poland, Krol has a master’s in studio art from the Warsaw Academy of Fine Art. Krol first came to Galesburg in 2002 as part of an artist-in-residency program with Studios Midwest. She had a solo show at Sandburg in 2016 and the Galesburg Civic Arts Center in 2019 in addition to teaching Art History courses at Sandburg from 2017-19. Krol’s artwork is part of private collections in Poland, Germany, France, the United Kingdom and the United States. She continues to paint and sculpt in addition to a developing passion for ceramics.

Established in 2006 and named for area artist Lonnie Eugene Stewart in 2015, the Lonnie Eugene Stewart Art Gallery has hosted group faculty exhibits, juried student exhibits and the works of area professional artists.
